CHRONOLOGY

1957

Born in Wichita, Kansas on December 23. Father, John, services B-52 and KC-135 airplanes for the Boeing Company; mother, Shirley, is a housewife and preschool teacher; brother, Rocky, is two at time of birth.

Father is transferred numerous times, relocating family to Roswell, New Mexico ('59), Altus, Oklahoma ('61), and Bossier City, Louisiana ('62).

Attends elementary school in Curtis, Louisiana.

Family is relocated by Boeing to Marysville, Washington. Attends Marysville Middle School.

Attends Pilchuck High School, Marysville, where he is an honor student. Extracurricular interests include journalism, photogra-phy, and tennis. Employed as a part-time cook by Herfy's Hamburgers franchise.

Attends Everett Community College, Everett, Washington, taking courses in journalism, photography, and psychology. Receives an AA degree in spring, 1977. Works at Boeing.

Moves to San Francisco.

Employed by Pacific Bell as a service representative.

Studies experimental filmmaking and photography at the San Francisco Art Institute. Begins making Super-8 films.

Completes 16mm film, Accidental and Purposeful Actions.

"Show For the Eyes," Pasadena Film Forum, Pasadena, California. Group film show.

"Film Installations and Multiple Projections," Diego Rivera Gallery, San Francisco Art Institute. Group film-installation exhibition.

Receives BFA in Filmmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Trapezial Affinities, San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery.

Group film-installation exhibition.

The Lenath of the Mean Free Path, San Francisco Cinematheque.

Group film show.

"Bay Area Artists " San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery.

Travels to Malaysia. Stays for nine months, making forays into Thailand and the Malaysian countryside.

Begins graduate studies in art at the University of California, San Diego. Embarks on multi-panel paintings, a series he will continue until his death.

Receives MFA from UC San Diego.

Moves to New York City.

Sets up studio and residence in New York City's Hell's Kitchen.

Receives a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant and meets Alan Upchurch at an HIV support group. Suffers from his first AIDS-related illness. Works part-time at Cornell University Medical Library in New York City.

"Current Minimalists," Arts Festival of Atlanta. Group exhibition.

It's a Black and White World," Tomoko Liguori Gallery, New York City. Group exhibition.

Travels to Paris and London.

Receives a Giorno Poetry Systems Grant. Health begins to substantially decline. Goes on permanent disability.

In October, receives diagnosis of CMV retinitis, a disease in which the retina slowly deteriorates.

Though his vision worsens, he paints vigorously. It is his most creatively prolific period to date.

ARENA, New York City. Solo exhibition.

CMV retinitis progresses irreparably, causing partial blindness and he is no longer able to paint.

Visits parents in Marysville. Succumbs to dementia and returns to New York where he is hospitalized.

He dies on October 23, 1992, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Greenwich Village, with his parents at his bedside.

Memorial plaque placed November 28 at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Everett, Washington.
